Tucson Outdoor Shade
Outdoor shade for the spots you actually use: the table, the grill, the swing set and the chairs by the wall.
Tucson Shade Sails has crews that add outdoor shade to patios and backyards across Tucson. Patio shade sails work best when they cover the hours you're outside, so we start by asking when you use the space.
Afternoon sun is the usual problem on west-facing patios. A sail set lower on the west side and higher by the house blocks that light while keeping the view open.
Some patios need a freestanding sail. If the City would treat a sail as a patio cover, it needs a permit at any size, and we'll tell you before you commit to a layout.
Heavy steel brackets bolted into solid framing, never just the fascia board.
A sail sized to shade the whole table at dinner time, not just at noon.
Fabric set high and offset so heat and smoke rise clear of it.
Shade over swings and turf, which can get too hot to touch in full sun.

A mesquite or palo verde gives great shade, but it can take years to grow over a patio. Many Tucson homeowners hang a sail now and plant a tree beside it, then move or remove the sail once the canopy fills in.
Arizona law requires a call to Arizona 811 before digging or drilling. Locators get two full working days to respond, and we don't drill a single post footing until every utility on the ticket has answered.
Yes, by blocking direct sun on you and the slab. Because shade cloth breathes, hot air rises through it rather than collecting underneath.
Only into solid framing or masonry, with the penetration sealed. If the wall can't take the load, we add a post a short distance away.
Standard knitted shade cloth is not. With enough pitch it sheds light rain; waterproof fabric is available but catches more wind and needs a stronger frame.
Yes. We set the sail high enough to clear swing arcs and slides, and keep posts out of play paths.
Tell us which part of the yard bakes and when you use it. We'll measure and suggest a layout.
